CPBE was set up in 1991 with funds donated by major Hong Kong organisations.

Since then, we have conducted training and provided language support to hundreds of companies and Government organisations. In addition, we have welcomed thousands of individuals onto our Business English programs, some of which lead to international qualifications issued by the University of Cambridge, UK.

The Centre is now part of the Management and Executive Development Centre (MEDC), a strategic business unit of the Institute for Enterprise (IfE) within PolyU. 

Our areas of expertise include language assessment, plain English coaching, teacher education and school-based teacher support programs. All our staff are qualified and experienced trainers with native English proficiency. The majority are from UK, Canada, USA and Australia.
